I wasn’t planning on a back to back plant post but going to work these last few days it’s really hard not to notice West Virginia’s State Flower, the Rhododendron, in full bloom.

I had to stop by Jimmy’s Produce in Glen Daniel’s on my way home today. The urge was to strong. I had to have a Rhododendron for my yard. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the pink variety (Catawba) so I opted for the white (Great Laurel, Rosebay). And now that I have my own Rhododendron bush, it is sitting beside me on my bookshelf because I have no idea where I’m going to plant it.

All about the Rhododendron.

One Response to “Rhododendron”

  1. I’ve explained to friends from other parts of the country about how we sometimes actually have to hack away at thickets of laurel and rhododendron as overgrowth, while they bust their butts to get it to take off.

To me, it doesn’t take the legislature to tell me that it is indeed the state flower.
