Anybody that has even periodically followed my blog will know that recently I had an accident. It’s times like this when a person finds out who their true friends are. I have been sitting here at my house doing without all of my vices and even some necessities. Coffee, pepsi, cigs and even the food has been running low. On top of that, two days after I returned from the hospital, lightning destroyed my TV. Needless to say this entire experience has been a nightmare. Dealing with the pain and doing without everything that keeps me sane is too much.
I have “friends” and family all over this area but find that mostly I’m alone in this battle. I can’t do much of anything for myself right now, at least nothing that requires the use of both hands. Dishes piling up, opening crackers with scissors, getting dressed. You would be surprised at the trouble I have just tying my shoes.
About a month ago I was introduced to a guy named Robbie and his girlfriend Jeri. Robbie is a big burly “Grizzly Adams” looking character. He is the type that outside of West Virginia a person may cross the street when they see him coming or hold on to their purse a little tighter or just be cautious of him in general because of his outward appearance. Long hair, big beard and looks like a mountain man. Last night it was about 11:30 when there was a knock at my door. It was Robbie and his girlfriend. They came with Pepsi and some other basic necessities. I can’t put into words the gratitude I felt towards my new friends. If I had known them a little longer I would have hugged them both.
Instances like this renew my faith in humanity. They didn’t have to do what they did. I nearly had tears in my eyes as I thanked them profusely for their unselfishness. We sat and talked till well after midnight. When they asked about my TV, I told them it blew up two days after coming home from the hospital. Today they are bringing me a spare TV to use until I get back on my feet. This moves me beyond words.
Thank you Robbie and Jeri… you are true friends indeed.

It’s true that you often find out who your true friends are when something unexpected happens.
Sounds like you’ve got a couple of good friends there.
