I figured this question would be asked because of the reference to it in the last post. So, I’m going to share with you the, maybe not so famous, peanut butter dough ball recipe.

Since catching that fish years ago, I have since learned that the addition of vanilla flavoring to the mix greatly increases your chances of catching the big Carp.

So here it is in all of it’s simplicity…

What you need -

  • A medium spread peanut butter sandwich
  • liquid vanilla extract
  • water source

Instructions -

  • Knead the sandwich into an evenly colored ball using as little water as possible. You want a fairly firm dough ball evenly colored.
  • Put a hole in the peanut butter ball about an inch deep. We always used a thumb or finger for this purpose.
  • Fill the hole with vanilla extract.
  • Knead the vanilla into the ball.
  • Put it in the refrigerator and let it get cold, usually just a couple of hours is sufficient.
  • Take it out and Go Fishing!!!

You can use the dough ball immediately but it stays on a hook better cold. This has always worked real good for me. The oil from the peanut butter and the vanilla attract the carp like flies. I have even caught mud turtles and catfish with this mixture. Carp probably are one of the biggest fighters when caught. I love catching them but I always set them free. Hey, what can I say, I’m a catch and release kinda guy.

Good Luck!!!

  2. finally some useful info on how to catch a big catfish! thanks for the link will get a story up about your site soon as possible.

  3. Thanx for both comments

I have used this recipe for catching mud cats. The only problem is that if carp are in the neighborhood and you are trying to use this to catch catfish or mud turtles then the carp become the nuisance fish. That’s not to say though that carp aren’t fun to catch. They are a blast to catch and I have fought with them for upwards of a half an hour, the fish headed the other way the entire time.

Good luck fishing and please if you make a dough ball using this recipe and catch a big fish…. by all means drop by and tell me about it.
