Today I was able to go on about a four hour hike. Usually when I am out like that it is a very relaxing experience. Today was exactly the opposite. There were a few aspects of todays hike that, for lack of a better description, just flat pissed me off. I was actually more upset on the walk home than when I was in the woods.
This is the road I walked for about a half of a mile after getting out of the woods. It runs directly off of Route 99 in Bolt directly across from the West Virginia Division of Highways Bolt Substation. I had never walked this road before and can guarantee I will never walk it again.

From the time I got out of the woods until arriving back on Rte99 it was like a garbage dump. I would be ashamed to say I live anywhere along that road. I think the thing that pissed me off the most is the vicinity to WVDOH. I mean really, are they just for snow removal? I know, maybe the state is waiting for someone to adopt this road. Then again maybe they just flat don’t give a rats ass because it is not a road you would find tourists traveling. No matter what the reason I think it’s just stupid to not care enough and just ignore it. I would love to know where our tax dollars go. I believe that state tax dollars paid from a community should go directly to the communities needs. Like garbage clean up. Seriously, what should I care about paving a backstreet in Charleston or Beckley. Bolt Mountain is what I care about and I would love to see my tax dollars spent right here instead of wasted somewhere else. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it till I die. I love this state but the people running it are a bunch of idiots. That’s putting it nicely.
One other thing, to the people that live along this road… SHAME ON YOU!!!

Oh my Denny…do I have a story for you? My hubby is a long haul driver so we have been all West Virginia. I no longer will ever ride with him in the winter …lol..ever heard of Mt. Storm? Well we were almost 12 feet wide and it was the dead of winter….and we were 80 feet long…you get the picture? The little bitty road that led to the mine was solid ice…at the top they were not sure that they could get us back down. It was quite an experience…that is quite a little grade to make on sheer ice. I had my hubby take me home the minute we made it down..only by God’s grace might add…and, two dump trucks scattering 3/4 inch rock in front of us. But it is definitely one of my favorite states…especially down along some of the valleys…it’s beautiful!!:)~Jackie

Thank you so much for commenting
Yes I have been to Mt Storm… very treacherous driving, definitely called Mt. Storm for a reason.
btw- some photo’s in my flickr photos from the power plant on Mt. Storm I was there about six months ago into January of this year. I simply could not fathom driving an over the road truck on that mountain.

Trash is a huge pet peeve of mine. I live in an area with some of the most beautiful scenery in Michigan and on the shores of one of our most beautiful natural resources, Lake Michigan. Yet, everywhere I go, I see trash. People little and dump their trash with no regard for the beauty that they are trashing.
Makes me livid.

Pet peeve here too. Very passionate about this nonsense. Since writing this post I have been considering adopting this road using the boltmountain.com site as the sponsor. I could sit here and complain about this for days but it really wouldn’t solve anything.
