As the title suggests this post contains both good and bad news. The good first, after two months of being off from work due to an accident I’ve decided to return to work early. I haven’t been getting help with any bills and honestly I’m going stir crazy. When I had the accident I was laid off from my real job and working construction to make ends meet. I’ve been called back to my real job. I’m a start up technician for a large electrical contractor specializing in coal processing plants and supporting equipment. Basically what that means is after a new plant has been built and wired I’m the guy that pushes the start button and does the troubleshooting. I love this type of work for the challenges it presents. Integrating new technologies and always somewhere in the learning curve. Plus the pay is not bad either…
Anyway that was the good news. The bad is that I’m not going to be blogging regularly for a little while. This job requires me to be gone up to two weeks at a time depending on job load and start-up dates. I had a laptop I used to blog while on the road but have since gotten rid of it. Wasn’t much else to do in the motels. But I plan to get another one soon until then posts to my blogs will be erratic. I enjoy blogging while on the road because since the job takes me all over the state I get some good pictures from everywhere in the state. If you want to keep up with where I am and what I’m doing maybe even check out some cool pics then I would suggest that you request updates by e-mail or subscribe to my feeds.
On another note, I have a question. A couple of weeks ago I found one of my posts copied, word for word even with a couple of photos, on another blog. Word for word may not be exactly true. The post was translated onto a German blog. I actually had to translate it back to English to read it. I’m not sure how to react to that. My first thought is I don’t really care especially since they linked back to my blog. On the other side it probably would have been cool to ask me if they could use my post for whatever reason instead of my finding out through Technorati. I guess I’ve been thinking about it because since it is on a German blog I can’t tell in what context the post was published nor can I tell for what reason. My question is, how would you feel about this scenario?

drop them a note thanking them, ask them to come by and leave a comment. If they made the effort to link to you then at least they were trying to do it right.

First, great news about the job. That should help with the money issues, and will keep you busy. So I’m glad to hear about that.
Second, about the less frequent blogging. It is for a good reason, and it sounds like you’ll have some good pictures and stories to tell when you are able to blog. So it sounds like that’s all good.
Third, about your stolen content. I just put a post about this up on the OBS blog yesterday. It doesn’t matter if it’s a European blog, or if they link to your content. If they steal you material, words or pictures and use it without attributing it to you, you should contact them and let them know to take the content down immediately. You own that material and no one should use it without attribution or without your permission.
Guess I’m a little hot about this issue.

Oh Denny I will miss you…sniff, sniff. Get a laptop! as for the German thing….weird! i agree they probably should have at least let you know….but good thing they still gave the credit where it was do!!
Have fun back at work…and TRY not to miss us all

Glad to hear about the job. Re the copy of your post, I would have mixed feelings similar to you. I guess we all need to learn that our pics and words are ours, and our right to decide how they are used by others. I don’t know what recourse we really have other than to ask nicely to take the material off?
I put a Babelfish widget on my blog for translations so maybe that would help alleviate stealing for the sake of translating… I dunno…
I feel a bit powerless to stop copying. Been thinking about this since the post I read yesterday on OBS.

Glad to hear you’re going to be able to go back to work.
I would be upset about the stolen content and would probably do what Kristine said.

Thanx for all comments. I am very happy to be going back to work which starts in the morning.
As far as the stolen content.. I don’t think it is right and would personally never do that. The post copied was the one entitled “This Is A Test”… I didn’t even think it was a very good post that’s why I couldn’t figure out why they would take it.
I actually had someone a day or two ago ask me if they could use part of a comment I left on another blog on their website… I was more than happy to let them and would most likely have not thought twice about the copied post if they had asked permission. I just don’t think it was done right even with the link back.

Blessings:
I have just recently done a similar thing with my newest post…a video, complete with description and the little graphic. (though I dressed the video, it’s the same)
As well, I created a link logo from his mainpage to place within the post as a backlink. While I think I did tell him I was doing this, I didn’t have time to wait for a reply…if he objects, of course I will change it.
Some are honoured by this, some get upset…but I have an understanding that some lack.
We are ONE…NOTHING is ours…not even our thoughts, because somewhere, half way around the world…someone else is thinking the same thing.
Which is also why I’d like to share this with you. That you never NEED rely on work. (just click on your ‘GIFT’ to learn how)
“To give a person a tree is to give them a present…But to teach a person how to make a tree is a GIFT for life.”
No one can EVER copy you now, not even YOU. Each tree is completely unique(and therefore priceless, I start mine priced at $25 Million each and then come down from there to as MUCH as they can afford, so that everybody can afford one and I get as much as possible and sometimes more than I would have asked).
I hope this helps.
your humble servant,
ancient clown
