I thought, since I’ve spent the majority of my time recently working, that I would write this post to bring what I do into perspective. At least on the current job.

As I suspected before I left, this is definitely more than a 3 or 4 day job. Two weeks is closer to the truth. The job entails taking this old service panel…

these heating contactors and breakers…

the incoming main feeds…

and what I like to call a rat’s nest.

All of that has to be removed, upgraded, and installed into the new cabinets below. My job is to put it back together and make it all work again. Stress? I know nothing of stress. (Adding to this… I concede, maybe I know a little about stress but I try hard to use it as a motivator. Because, Stress KILLS!!!) I enjoy the challenge. My mind is always hard at work anyway, I think problem solving exercises the mind.

The guy in the foreground is Mark, a helluva good electrician and just an all around good guy. I thought I should point that out before I say, I’m glad he didn’t stand up. Would of blocked my whole shot… just kidding Mark. (had to say that too, he’s a lot bigger than me :)

  1. Impressive. I freak out when I blow a fuse…that happens whenever I use my hair dryer the same time the air conditioner is on…or something like that. Anyway…it’s quite the operation for me to get everything back in good working order again. So…I’m impressed with you & Mark.

  2. Thanks Drowsey… sounds like you have an overload problem… ;) An air conditioner usually requires a lot of power and is normally run on a circuit by itself to prevent blowing fuses or tripping breakers when in operation with other devices. The circuit gets hot because of the overload… this could be a fire hazard so you might want to get it checked out… just a thought.

    Thanks for commenting…

That’s Drowsey! (I like that girl)

Looks to be quite a project. I have always liked a job that I can LOOK at when finished.
Being in a labor type position also keeps me from getting all fatty.

    Speedy!

  4. Quite a project… yes. Like you, I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing the job complete and working. The fatty part is not a problem with this blogger. I have a metabolism that apparently will allow me to eat all I want and still keep the same weight. At least, that is the way it has always been.

  5. thanks denny! Yes…I have the air conditioner on it’s own now…of course it’s snowing outside so I don’t have to worry about that for awhile now! :)

  6. Wow, that looks like quite some job. I have no talent for anything mechanical so people who can take things apart and put them back together and make them work always have my admiration.

  7. Thanks Kristine… I thrive on knowing what it is that makes things work… don’t know where that trait came from but I have found it quite useful :)

  8. drowsey… I worry about things like that when I hear about it and I hear about it a lot… I’ve seen the damage it can do so when I hear of the condition like you described I like to educate people on what’s happening there. I’m glad you got it fixed :)

    btw… your very welcome :)
