I’ve been thinking a lot about grammar and spelling on this blog after reading a post at the OBS on the subject.
Spelling errors I definitely try to keep to a minimum. That has always been a pet peeve of mine. I’ve never had a big problem with my spelling and if I’m not sure, I have a dictionary, thesaurus and two desktop encyclopedias and I’m not afraid to use them. Punctuation and grammar, on the other hand, I’m not so sure about. I try to get it right but my knowledge stems from being a lover of books (bibliophile) more so than from teachings. For me, getting the grammar and spelling correct defeats a preconceived notion of what a hillbilly is supposed to be and I kind of like that.
Does writing a blog make me a writer? I’ve published over 500 posts including the old blog and I don’t consider myself a writer. A storyteller maybe, a bs’er for sure but a writer? I can tell you this… if writing a blog had to be done longhand I would have been done before I even got started.

On another note… the Outdoor Bloggers Summit blog has some posts up that would be of interest to all bloggers. Be sure to check them out, you may just learn something.

Denny,
I would say you’re a writer. I’m with you though, if I had to write all the stuff I write longhand, I wouldn’t get any of it done.
I’ve very out of practice when it comes to actually writing things by hand. This isn’t good because my handwriting was never that terrific in the first place.

To be honest… I’ve always hated writing longhand. And like you, my handwriting has never been that great. Some people say I write like a doctor if that gives you any indication.
