The Ramp Season
If the warm rains and the Easter Lillies were not an indication of spring, then the announcement of local ramp (wild leek) dinners would be.
Delbert Freewill Baptist Church will be having their Annual Ramp Dinner the 19th day of April 2008 at Drews Creek of Naoma. The dinner will be from noon to 7pm.
Naoma is located on Rte. 3 about 7 miles east of Whitesville or 11 miles west of Glen Daniels. Drews Creek is a branch off of Peachtree Hollow. The Delbert FWB sits nearly in the head of the hollow.
The dinner is held in a building to the right just out of sight in this photo.
If you want to enjoy a little bit of mountain air and a ton of mountain hospitality along with some good food then I would suggest a local ramp dinner. For those that are adventurous – this church is at the end of the paved road and only one house sits past it. This road will take you all over Bolt Mountain. There are a lot of roads for four wheeling or just hiking.
I should mention, if you want to enjoy the mountain air – do that before the ramp dinner, P U Ramps!

That sounds like a festive time. I’ll bet the wafting of the ramp aroma up into the hollows really gets all of the critters attention. Not to mention after a couple hours into it. lol. I love ramps.
P-U Ramps is right — those things will be seeping from your pores for a week! They sure are good, though. Enjoy the festival, and try to stay downwind!
Dennie – it gets their attention all right – mass exodus.
Tammie they give new meaning to the phrase – personal space. Instead of worrying about ones own personal space you are more concerned the other person maintains theirs.
Awesome!
One of my best friends lives in NYC and takes ramps “home” with her whenever she can… to sell them! They go for $30/lb or more!
