Unfortunately all of my plans to go to the mountains have been delayed because of the weather. It seems like ever since making those plans the weather has been in a foul mood. I am still hoping to go sometime in the near future but I believe I am just going to leave my gear ready and make no plans. When the weather fairs - I’m gone to the mountains.

I’ve also been thinking about the AT hike. My scheduled start date is just under two months away. The way things look right now I may have to adjust those plans and hike the trail in two parts instead of all at once. To be honest - I don’t want to stay away from the stop mountaintop removal battle for six months.

Anyway - I’m thinking of changing my plans and taking the route south from Harpers Ferry, WV which is close to 1000 miles to the trails end in Georgia. Harpers Ferry north to Maine is just over 1100 miles. Basically I’m thinking of taking the south journey from Harpers Ferry this year and the north journey next. This will give me a lot more flexibility as far as when I actually want to start the hike. On top of all of that, I want to try and do it in such a way as to bring awareness to MTR. Just not sure how to accomplish that task at the moment.

Right now I’m pretty much doing the same thing most other people are - waiting for spring.

Have a great day!

  1. That’s not a bad idea. You’ll still be hiking the trail, just splitting it into more manageable segments.

  2. I’m really looking forward to the hike - much wanted seclusion.

  3. Geez…..I haven’t been around in a while…i didn’t even know you got the backwoods drifter self hosted….EGADS!!!!!!!!
Anyway i hope the weather clears up for you soon I love the picks you get when out hiking…as for me in NY I could use some nice weather myself.
