Kicking Off Summer
It has been quite a long time since I have attended an outdoor festival/concert of any kind. I do remember the last one though with surprising clarity. Surprising because of the state I was in. The concert was at the Blossom Music Center near Akron, OH. Headlining was Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ted Nugent.
This past weekend I attended the Mountain Aid festival at Shakori Hills, NC. If you could get past the constant tick removal then it was a helluva good time. I went down with my good friends Larry Gibson and Chuck Nelson. My intentions were to set up my tent and camp on the festival grounds all weekend. I made it through the first night but by the second night I had dealt with so many ticks that a shower was a must. Whether I had any of them on me or not, I felt like they were everywhere. As far as the BackWoods Drifter, the rain has finally moved out and it is time to visit the mountains a little closer to home. I was going to leave today for a few days in the mountains around Bolt but decided to wait until tomorrow so I can wash everything I took to NC with me. In case you haven’t figured it out, I don’t like ticks.
At any rate, I do plan to leave in the morning for at least one night in the mountains.

Comments in this post were correct. The fossils are that of the Lepidodendron tree and are in the neighborhood of 300 to 360 million years old. Thanx Jen Osha for the confirmation.
One thing is for sure, there are some knowledgeable people visiting my blog. Or at least, when I keep the blog updated.
