Before Endmtr.com was born I was speaking out on this blog about the impacts associated with and the in-justice of mountaintop removal.
I found out rather quickly that my bluntness when it came to the subject of MTR was turning off my readers. As it turns out most folks would obviously rather you paint them a pretty picture instead of telling them the truth. Speaking out on this blog about MTR was the turning point for the blog. It was also damn near the death of it.
I started a new blog about mountaintop removal for two reasons, the first was to take the subject of MTR off my personal blog in order to try and retain some of my readers that came here for a more relaxed ‘outdoor’ experience. The second reason and more importantly, I wasn’t going to shut-up about MTR even if it did result in the death of this blog.
Now almost 3 years later I find myself trying to resurrect the BackWoods Drifter because for a while MTR was all that was on my mind which meant Endmtr.com thrived while this blog floundered. My trips and adventures in the mountains became less leisure and more photo taking/fact finding around MTR sites. I was uniquely qualified for that because of all the time I spend in the backwoods. I had no problem spending multiple days in the mountains in order to get a few decent photos of MTR.
I definitely can’t complain about how well Endmtr.com has done but I am a little sad that this blog, the one that started it all for me, had to pay the price. Now I’m trying to correct that.
It is really difficult to get interested in this blog again because I know that, like right now for instance, most likely nobody will read this unless thirty days from now they run across it on a search engine. Hard to write an article when you are no longer aware of who your readers are or even if you have any.
This blog platform was in tatters when I returned. A hacker had infiltrated the core files and in the process of uploading and restoring the site two years worth of photos were accidentally deleted making two years worth of posts irrelevant.
I still haven’t shut-up about mountaintop removal but I am getting to the point where I have said damn near everything I could possibly say about the subject… twice. If folks don’t see by now, nothing I can say will change their mind.
Now I have to try and get my mind wrapped back around this blog and breath life back into a corpse.
As far as mountaintop removal, the battle rages on.
